Call for Papers – Jazz @ 100 – Jazzinstitut Darmstadt (Germany)
With respect to the 1917 recordings of the Original Dixieland Jass Band, the first recording of a jazz tune ever, the largest European archive and Department of Jazz Research, the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt, issued a call for papers remembering the – questionable – centenary of that historic event. (Since amongst other things, this band had not a single African-American member, but consisted of musicians of German-American and Italo-American ancestry.)
This call is intended to set up a list of speakers for the forthcoming 15th Darmstadt Jazzforum ‐ “Jazz @ 100.” The conference is to be held 28 ‐ 30 September 2017. It is accompanied by concerts, an exhibition, and films in (September/October 2017):
“The organizing committee of the 15th Darmstadt Jazzforum ‐ “Jazz @ 100” An alternative to a story of heroes” ‐ welcomes proposals for presentations which focus specifically on the subject as described above. Please make sure to mention which of the three blocks outlined above your proposed paper might fit into.”
Interested authors, scholars or students will find more information on the conference website of the Jazzinstitut.
